Palm Springs Aerial Tramway

“It is not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves.”
— Edmond Hillary

Mountaineering, like all worthy pursuits, tests both the body and the mind. That said, not all ascents need to be arduous. The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is one of our recommended off-property experiences when visiting Parker Palm Springs. Rising to a height of 8,416 feet, the unique rotating tram whisks visitors up the cliffs of Chino Canyon to the pristine Mt. San Jacinto State Park and Wilderness Area and some of the best views anywhere in California.

Like all mountains worth summiting, establishing a good base camp is the first priority and Parker Palm Spring, set on a private thirteen-acre estate, is the choice of many an adventurer. Considered by readers of Conde Nast Traveler to be their favorite 5-star hotel in Palm Springs, a stay here ensures comfort, relaxation, and a joie de vivre to inspire any intrepid explorer.

Planning the route is the next step of your journey. For the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, tickets are available for rides up from 8am to 8pm with the last tram descending at 9:45pm.

The first thing you will notice at the summit is the temperature. It averages about 30 degrees cooler than the valley floor, so dress accordingly. The second thing you will notice is the view. In fact, on a clear day it is even possible to see Las Vegas, more than 230 miles away.

Tear yourself away from the incredible vistas and you will discover so many things to do. Hikers and walkers can enjoy more than 50 miles of trail and horseback riding tours and guided nature walks are also available. During the winter months, it is even possible to go snowshoeing and cross-country skiing – in the desert no less.

For those wanting to enjoy the views over a meal, Peaks restaurant offers excellent fine dining with a window seat unlike any other. There is also the terrific yet casual Pines Café, ideal for families or those returning from a trek.

After discovering your inner mountain goat, there is no better place to repose than back at our resort beside one of the best pools in Palm Springs. In fact, we offer three distinct swimming pools, each with its own special soundtrack for just the right ambience.

Relaxing in the world’s most comfortable lounge chair, a cocktail in hand from Lemonade Stand, recounting your day’s adventure, you may suddenly realize that you have found exactly what you are looking for – the perfect base camp, for any adventure.
