Fall Modernism Week

Timeless design will always feel modern
— D. W. Brock

Palm Springs is a special place. Sometimes described as a living museum, the town has long preserved and celebrated the mid-century modern aesthetic, arguably one of greatest eras in American art and design. From architecture and furniture to art and fashion, expressions of mid-century modernism can be appreciated throughout Palm Springs and Coachella Valley.

This fall, Modernism Week runs October 24-27, 2024 and will once again attract people from around the world. The event is also the unofficial kickoff to the town’s social season. Popular activities include Palm Springs architecture tours, lectures and forums, fashion shows, walking and bike tours, and so much more.

The highlight of the week is the Modernism Show & Sale, one of the premier events of its kind in the country. Upwards of 50 national and international dealers will be showcasing vintage 20th century and contemporary 21st century decorative and fine art, antiques, furniture, curios, and more. The event begins with a festive wine reception and participants will have an early-buying opportunity before the public.

There are so many things to do for art lovers in Palm Springs. The Palm Springs Art Museum has one of the best mid-century modern collections in the world and is a must visit. The adjacent Palm Springs Architecture and Design Center, showcasing the work of famous architects who have designed mid-century modern homes in Palm Springs, is also worthy of a spot on your itinerary.

During Modernism Week there are many guided architectural and celebrity home tours available. From Frank Lloyd Wright to Frank Sinatra, you can visit classic homes up close to see what makes them so admired. An open-top bus tour is a popular way to experience this. Put on your favorite fedora (and sunscreen) and enjoy the architecture of Palm Springs from a unique perspective. More information on events and tours here.

The art scene in Palm Springs is thriving with many artists and artisans setting up permanent residency here. Vintage fashion is also popular and  there are numerous shops and boutiques to explore.
