Stargazing in the Desert

The sight of the stars makes me dream.
— Vincent van Gogh

The stars have been inspiring our dreams for as long as recorded history. Though tiny as each individual star appears to us, collectively they are perhaps the most awesome and wondrous display of nature. Every year, as the earth revolves around our own sun, the stars have been our guide, portenting a change of season and pointing the way on our journeys.

The ideal place to experience the night sky is Palm Springs, a renowned dark-sky city where street lights are designed to limit light pollution. As one of the best resorts in Palm Springs, our location at the edge of town, near the foothills of Indian Canyons means the views are spectacular. Many visitors, especially from big cities, are stunned by both the vastness and clarity of the desert night sky. Situated on thirteen private acres, we are a destination of choice among both stargazers and Condé Nast Readers.

For an extra-memorable experience, the best place to view the night sky in California is nearby Joshua Tree National Park. Stargazing is one of the most popular things to do at Joshua Tree, which is designated as an International dark sky park. Located far from artificial lights and atmospheric pollutants, the stunning “core” of the Milky Way is visible most nights from 10 p.m. to sunrise. Every year from April 16 – 25, the Lyrid Meteor Shower graces the night sky – the late evenings of April 21 and 22 are peak viewing times. In some years, the Lyrid meteor shower can average up to 100 meteor streaks an hour. It is a starry night sky canvas worthy of Van Gogh himself.

Space Out with Parker is a special offer we have launched for guests to take advantage of our region’s spectacular night skies. Enjoy a three-night stay in a one-bedroom villa, a two-hour private stargazing tour, the use of a kit complete with red flashlight, portable telescope, and an iPad with Skyview star locator map. Of course, being Parke Palm Springs the pack includes a celestial-themed picnic basket with Dom Perignon, and a Spotify mix of songs culled from the NASA Wake-up Call soundtrack to get you going in the morning.

For daytime adventures, our exclusive estate has a variety of unique experiences and amenities worthy of any dreamer. It starts with three gorgeous swimming pools, each with its own ambience. For even more pampering, visit Palm Springs Yacht Club, our on-property spa emporium that Vogue Magazine calls “serene and chic all at once.” There are also six distinct food and beverage options to savor, including the incomparable mister parker’s, one the best restaurants in Palm Springs. Enter through the red velvet curtain to discover an intimate, upscale room that inspires decadence. It is a fine-dining destination with a menu to match — epicurean, savory favorites with Chef’s personal favorites. Always classy but never stuffy, this is an evening you’ll long remember.

After dinner, wander down to our outdoor fire pit, lay back in a comfortable butterfly chair and look up. Here, beneath the majesty of stars, sharing the experience with friends old and new, you may just find the inspiration you are seeking.
