Welcome to Sunnylands

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.
— Eleanor Roosevelt

Sunnylands is one of the most beautiful properties in the country, and one of the most significant. Completed in 1966 by Walter and Leonore Annenberg, Sunnylands has hosted 8 U.S. Presidents, numerous foreign leaders, and has been the site of many important discussions that have “enhanced international dialogue and civil discourse.”

After a summer hiatus, Sunnylands Center & Gardens reopens for public tours on September 10. The stunning gardens are worth the price of admission alone. The estate is a tour-de-force of design, culture, and history, and a must-see for lovers of mid-century modern architecture. It is one of the best things to visit in Palm Springs.

Over the years, the Annenbergs welcomed everyone from Frank Sinatra to Queen Elizabeth. They were on a first-name basis with many U.S Presidents, including Dwight D. Eisenhower, who was the first President to tee off at the historic Sunnylands Golf Course, located within the estate.

Though noted socialites, the Annenberg’s true passion was philanthropy, donating billions over the course of their lifetimes, including a single pledge of $500 million to U.S. public education.

Today, the estate offers a variety of guided tours, including:

• A historic house tour. This masterpiece of architecture and design is considered to be one of the best mid-century modern tours in Palm Springs. Inside, the furniture, art, and photographs of historical moments from the estate’s past are mesmerizing.

• Grounds tour via open-air shuttle. Explore the stunning gardens and statues, golf course, and learn about the history of the estate.

• Bird lover’s tour. At 200-acres, the estate is a sanctuary for much wildlife, especially the avian kind.

Palm Springs is a destination noted for its historic estates, including our very own Parker Palm Springs. Built by Gene Autry, the legendary Singing Cowboy of film and television, the history of Parker Palm Springs is extensive. During the 1980s and 90s, Merv Griffin owned the property and many a deal was struck beside our famous swimming pools. Today, the estate continues to be a go-to destination for Hollywood.

Gorgeous landscapes, vibrant art, renowned architecture, an on-property spa, and incredible dining are all part of the ambience at Parker Palm Springs, inspiring the kind of discourse we all need – true relaxation.
